RECORD THAT CAN ONLY BE TIED
It's official. The worst team in NFL history is the Detroit Lions. After completing an 0-16 season, the Lions are worse than the 1976 expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-14), the last NFL team to complete a season without a victory. "I don't ever want to be a part of this again," Lions quarterback Dan Orlovsky said. " We haven't won since, November of '07, maybe? [Actually, Dec. 23, 2007.] I don't even know the last time we won a game."
MARINO DODGES BREES' BID
Saints QB Drew Brees came up 16 yards short in his bid to top Dan Marino's 1984 single-season NFL record of 5,084 yards passing. Brees needed 402 yards to set the mark. He finished with 386, which made him only the second player to pass for more than 5,000 yards.
A REAL TURNAROUND
Think the Falcons had a remarkable turnaround? The Dolphins won one game last year and this season won the AFC East title. The Dolphins beat Jets to earn their way into the playoffs.
Patriots STAY AT HOME
The Patriots lost their bid at securing a sixth consecutive playoff berth when the Dolphins won. New England is the first NFL team with an 11-5 record to miss the playoffs since the Broncos in 1985.
MOVING ON UP
Colts wide receiver Marvin Harrison became the NFL's second all-time leading reciever. He caught seven passes for 31 yards, passing Cris Carter (1,101).
Eagles ARE IN
The Eagles had slim playoff hopes just weeks ago and benched QB Donovan McNabb. Everything broke the Eagles way to claim the NFC's final wild card.
