What a difference one week makes in the NFL.
Last week, the Carolina Panthers were getting smashed in Tampa Bay, 27-3. This week, they put the wood to the New Orleans Saints, 30-7.
When Panther fans tell you that they are a legit Super Bowl contender, they point to games like this. Carolina was simply awesome. The double-barrel rushing attack was on point; Jonathan Stewart and DeAngelo Williams split carries and totaled 134 yards. Steve Smith finally looked amazing with 122 yards receiving and a 39-yard touchdown grab two defenders that I’m still not sure how he caught.
The defense was beautiful as well. After giving up a Saints touchdown to start the 2nd quarter, Carolina shut down New Orleans. Julius Peppers, Thomas Davis and Ken Lucas were everywhere as they held Drew Brees to just 231 yards.
How about this: only three Carolina penalties.
