After the Redskins lackluster loss to the Giants, I wrote how unimpressed I was with Jim Zorn’s offense.
Through nearly three quarters of the Redskins game against the Saints, I still was unimpressed. The Skins defense did a fine job holding down an explosive N’Awlins offense. They created turnovers that gave the Skins outstanding field position. Washington ended up with nothing more than three FGs (along with a missed attempt).
What happened late in the third quarter and extended into the fourth was a rebirth … and going back a bit:”We talked a lot during the week,” Jason Campbell said. “I said ‘Coach, just trust me.’ And he said, ‘I’ve got to trust you more.’ We do it together.”
Zorn, I guess, trusted Campbell enough. Campbell had an outstanding stretch, completing his final eight passes and getting the ball deep. Campbell found Santana Moss seven times (for 164 yards) including a 67-yard touchdown pass with 3:29 remaining that gave the Redskins the lead.
Washington would get their first win of the season, beating the Saints 29-24.
